Data Platform Engineer (m/f/d)

München
Full-time
Permanent employee

Your Team

At Gini, infrastructure is not a support function — it’s a product.

As a Data Platform Engineer, you build and operate the data foundation that powers our services. You ensure that our databases and data stores are reliable, secure, scalable, and performant — forming a critical part of our platform running on bare-metal Kubernetes.

You work at the intersection of infrastructure solutions, distributed data systems, and developer experience. You take ownership of our data platform, continuously improve it, and collaborate closely with developers to make working with data seamless, safe, and efficient.

Your playing field at Gini

  • Own and operate data platform components: You take responsibility for our databases and data stores — from provisioning and operation to continuous improvement.

  • Ensure reliability and high availability: You design, operate, and optimize highly available database systems running on bare-metal Kubernetes.

  • Drive security and standardization: You define and enforce security best practices, hardening strategies, and standardized configurations across all data systems.

  • Optimize performance: You continuously analyze and improve query performance, storage efficiency, and system throughput.

  • Automate data operations: You eliminate manual work by building automation around provisioning, scaling, backups, failover, and maintenance.

  • Collaborate closely with developers: You support product teams in designing efficient data access patterns, debugging issues, and improving overall data usage.

  • Contribute to incident response and stability: You diagnose and resolve production issues related to data systems, and you implement improvements to prevent recurrence.

  • Continuously evolve the data platform: You evaluate new technologies, improve existing systems, and help shape the long-term data platform strategy.

Skills to be successful

  • You have experience in operating, maintaining and providing databases and data stores such as PostgreSQL, Kafka, RabbitMQ, NoSQL databases, or other distributed data systems. Preferably on bare-metal Kubernetes, using infrastructure-as-code patterns and GitOps-based automation.

  • You have a solid understanding of high availability, replication, backup strategies, disaster recovery, and operating reliable production-grade data platforms. You continuously seek for opportunities to improve operational efficiency

  • You have development experience in Java and/or Golang and are proficient in at least one programming or scripting language, preferably Go for internal tooling and automation

  • You understand storage systems and concepts, performance tuning, query optimization, and the operational challenges of distributed data platforms at scale

  • You bring a security-by-default mindset and are familiar with security best practices for data systems, including access control, encryption, hardening, reliability, and resilience

  • You approach problems analytically, can troubleshoot complex distributed systems, take ownership of services, and proactively drive improvements

  • You collaborate effectively with developers, understand their needs when working with data, and communicate technical trade-offs clearly across technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • You communicate effectively in English across technical and non-technical audiences
